Performance Analysis of Three-level NPC Inverter Fed PMSM Drives

In this paper, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive using vector control (VC) that allows more accurate speed control and smoother torque response is presented. This paper analyses and execute closed-loop vector control (VC) techniques such as space vector modulation field-oriented control (SVM - FOC), and space vector modulation direct torque and flux control (SVM-DTFC) for PMSM drive at constant load torque and speed variation. SVM-FOC, SVM-DTFC are used with 3-level neutral point clamped inverter (NPCI). NPCI provide better dc bus utilization for same DC bus voltage. The switching selection strategy of SVM is modified using the nearest three SVM to reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD). The MATLAB/Simulink results are presented to verify the effectiveness of control scheme.
