A SiPM Based Sensor For Nuclear Detection Applications

In this work, we report the development of a detection system based on amplifiers coupled with a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM). A bulk driven OTA was fabricated in a 180 nm process and experimentally characterized with a light source. The OTA performance, when configured as a transimpedance amplifier, was compared to a discrete amplifier implementation. Both amplifiers had approximately 70 dB open loop gain. Both amplifiers were used in closed loop configuration and were verified with a gamma check source and scintillator. The energy resolution using the commercial amplifier was 14.2% and for the bulk driven amplifier was 8.6%.
