Static and Transient Stability Analysis of Power System Containing Wind Farms

With the development of power electronics and technology, doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) have replaced traditional asynchronous generators as the main power generation in the wind farms. The main work of this paper is to establish a single DFIG model based on the electrical structure and mathematical model of the doubly-fed wind turbine, and verify the multi-machine aggregation equivalent model. Furthermore, MATLAB/Simulink is used to simulate the power system model to study the factors affecting the operating characteristics of DFIG wind turbines and the influence of DFIG wind farm integration on the static and transient stability of power system. Regarding to the multi-unit power system, this paper proposes a stability analysis framework considering wind power plan by simulating the operating conditions of power system containing wind farms. The conclusion is that the integration of wind farms weakens power system stability, especially when large disturbances such as three-phase short circuit fault occur. This paper further compares the effect of improving system stability under two different methods, cutting off wind farm and configuring reactive power compensation devices for power system. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of STATCOM devices due to rapid response ability.
