Research on the Capacity Credit of Wind and Photovoltaic Power in Multi-Seasons and Multi-Regions

As the wind and photovoltaic (PV) power integration continues to increase, how to accurately evaluate the capacity credit is a major challenge for power system planning. Current capacity credit evaluation methods ignore seasonal and regional differences and the complementarity of wind and PV power, which may cause imprecise evaluation results. Thus, this paper proposes a method for evaluating the capacity credit of wind and PV power in multi-seasons and multi-regions, considering the time-space distribution characteristics and complementary characteristics of wind and PV. Based on the concept of equivalent firm capacity (EFC) and the principle of unchanged system reliability before and after the renewable energy integration, this paper uses the Monte-Carlo simulation and the Secant method to evaluate the capacity credit of wind and PV power from the power generation side. Taking a large power grid in China as a test case, the validity of the method proposed in this paper is verified.
