Comparison Study of Tensile Strength Characteristics of Al2O3 reinforced Al7075 and Al6061

Aluminum MMC's are widely used in a variety of industries for both small and large scales. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate tensile strength of Al6061 and Al7075 reinforced through Al2O3 (mesh size of 100 to 300) MMC's. The composites are developed using the liquid metallurgy route, and the samples are made as per the ASTM Standards. The reinforcement varies from 1% to 9%, with an interval of 2%, and total samples of 6 specimens, including 0%, were prepared. The prepared composites of Al6061-Al2O3 and Al7075-Al2O3 were carefully machined to prepare the specimen to measure the UTS, ultimate load, and % of reduction of the specimen. Therefore, all three tests were conducted by using UTM Cap-60T. The results clearly revealed that the tensile strength for both Al6061 and Al7075 raises with an rise in reinforcement, but in the case of Al6061, there is a continuous increase in tensile strength up to 7%, a decrease of 9% was observed.
