Case Study-Based Report on Solid-State Lighting

Solid-State Lighting (SSL) is the encouraging energy saver key for imminent lighting operations. In this paper, we've studied varied aspects considering countertrend and drawback while comparing HPS and LED luminaries. In this analysis considering the road lighting system at Sultan Qaboos University, two aspects related to streetlight systems were observational, analysis of substituting HPS lights with light-emitting diode (LED), and benefits of separate LED lights for road lighting in Oman. Also, in a distinct study at King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah Environmental assessment of road light requirement using Sustainable Process Indicator (SPI) methodology were considered. The assessment revealed energy effectiveness, short-term payout period to compensate the bulky cost of LED by reducing overall energy consumption. Hence, saving up to 40% of lighting energy can be achieved by substituting conventional to innovative lighting technology.
