Adaptive Beamforming Methods Based on Air-to-Ground Communication Scenarios

In order meet the strong demand of airborne users for internet access and seamless airborne broadband connectivity, air-to-ground (ATG) communication is a more promising solution than satellite communication(SC) due to its short latency, low cost and high speed. This article focuses on the beamforming problem in the ATG scene and proposes an adaptive beamforming scheme based on position assistance. With real-time position information, the method enables adaptive selection of the appropriate width beam to provide data communication services to the passengers onboard the aircraft with guaranteed stability of data transmission. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed scheme not only has low implementation complexity but also effectively improves the stability of data transmission in the ATG communication system.
