A Flexile Probe Feed Multiband Minkowski Island Fractal Antenna for Wireless Communication

Minkowski island fractal antenna has been proposed for wireless communication, especially for wearable devices and medical applications. The proposed fractal antenna has non-identical slots compared to all four identical slots on Minkowski island baseline design and resonates at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. Across all radiating frequencies, the designed fractal antenna return loss is higher than 10 dB, with 95 percent radiation efficiency and more than 5 dB isotropic gain across the operational spectrum. For medical and wearable applications, a thorough Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) simulation has been performed in the HFSS simulator to determine the safety of the proposed antenna. The proposed multiband fractal antenna has been fabricated, tested and a radiation pattern measurement was carried out inside an Anechoic chamber. The simulation results and fabricated antenna measurements agreed well, and the antenna is ready for prime time for any practical implementation.
