Simulation of a Rain-Powered Pico-Hydro Generator for a House Application

This study presents numerical simulation and analysis of the power output produce by a rain powered pico-hydro generator in single storey residential home. The turbine used in a simulation is a Turgo type turbine and the house parameter has a roof height 2.5m and a 12 sqm area. An average rainfall data was used to determine the flowrate in the roof. Different pipe size (125mm and 150mm) and nozzle angle (90° and 45°) was simulated using SolidWorks. Based on the simulation result the system can produce an approximate of 50 watts of power in a 15 minute of rainwater collected. In this research a rain powered pico-hydro generator was simulated and analyzed.
