Exposing a person to electric current can be deadly. For example, in the current spreading zone when one of the phase wires of the overhead power transmission line that fell to the ground is closed. The problem is the lack of step stress rationing in the Russian technical documentation, which is necessary for a comprehensive assessment of the safety of both the personnel of energy facilities and the safety of the population. The article presents the work of a stand demonstrating the defeat of a person by touch and step voltages when a 10 kV wire falls to the ground, a car and a short circuit on a support. The method of calculating the maximum allowable step stress. The above calculation of step stress showed the difference from the permissible value set by GOST, equal to 20V. It is proposed to take into account by introducing a biological margin factor for the step voltage of 0.85 obtained from the calculation.
