False Data Injection Attack Modeling and Impact on Vehicle Platooning

Vehicle platoons with small inter vehicle distances that leads to the reduction of fuel consumption and it can help increase traffic throughput in the transportation system. Network communication is an indispensable component for vehicle platoon, but it is also vulnerable to be attacked by cracker. The false data injection attack as a typical cyber attack which affect vehicle platoon is studied in this paper. First, the attack is modelled as additive attack and multiplicative attack. Then, in order to give a better evaluation for traffic safety and efficiency, a new assessment method is proposed for the evaluation of vehicle platoon. At last, numerical simulations are presented to test the cyber attack impact on vehicle platoon and the results shown that the multiplicative attack with more destructive effect on platoon.
