Automatic Underwater Acoustic Target Tracking by Using Image Processing Methods with Jamming Targets

Bearing time record analysis is a commonly used passive sonar information processing method, and is challenged by multi-target jamming. The performance of tracking ability is limited by Rayleigh Limit, which is one of the most frequently stated problems in direction of arrival territory. In this paper, an azimuth tracking framework is conceived by using image pattern recognition methods in order to improve the performance of sonar tracking systems. The new tracking framework first analyzes the target motions according to the recorded azimuths, then the multi-target jamming is mitigated via matched filtering. The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method is able to track the trajectory of the interested targets even if the noise of the jamming targets is more powerful.
