Electromagnetic despin mechanism design with halbach configuration and magnetic field analysis

In view of the fact that the failed spacecraft occupy the orbit resources gradually and rotate at high speed, the despin is the first step of deorbit operation. In this paper, microsatellite as the carrier, design a electromagnetic despin mechanism, which consists of permanent magnets and coils; Electromagnetic despin technology has the advantages of non-contacting control capability, no plume contamination and no consumption of fuel. The halbach configuration of permanent magnets are used to strengthen the magnetic field of the despin mechanism facing the side of failed spacecraft. The stable magnetic field is generated within a distance of 100mm-200mm, and can change the coil current to control the magnetic field. After that, establish the magnetic field model of despin mechanism, by comparing with the simulation results of ANSYS, the average error of the model is 5.25%, which shows a certain accuracy.
