A 2 × 2 MIMO-Antenna Array Based on Photonic Band Gap for Terahertz Applications

In this paper, to enhance the antenna designed performance in wireless communication systems, a 2×2 MIMO-antenna array with very low Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) is proposed by employing the photonic band-gap (PBG) structures on low loss tangent of Polyimide substrate having the dimension of 660×1400 µm
²
with a thickness of 191.29 µm. The -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna array lies from 0.640-0.664 THz. The gain obtained is 10.68 dBi at 0.65 THz resonant frequency. The most addressed MIMO parameters are calculated such as Mean Effective Gain (MEG), ECC, and Total Active Reflection Coefficient (TARC), and their values are found to be satisfactory as per the standards given by ITU. The isolation between port-1 and port-2 of the MIMO antenna achieved is greater than 20 dB in the operating band.
