Design of a Compact Band Pass Frequency Selective Surface for WLAN Applications Based on Meander Line Topology

The paper presents the design of a polarized unit cell of frequency selective surface (FSS) to pass over 5.5 GHz range for WLAN system application interoperability in microwave domain. The proposed FSS unit cell exhibits size reduction using Meander line topology with transmission bandwidth of nearly 340 MHz. Meander line antennas are electrically small antennas having wide usage in mobile communications. Since the two-fold nature of designed FSS does not have rotational symmetry, it seems sensitive to variation of incidence angle stability up to 60° angle of rotation. An efficient method for computationally analyzing such FSS using CST Microwave Studio Suite 2020 is presented.
