Wearable Semi-Circular Ring Slot Antenna for C-Band Communications

A wearable circular ring slot antenna utilizing an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure for military applications is proposed in this paper. The EBG plays the role of decreasing the backward radiation, which is deemed harmful for humans. The proposed antenna has broad impedance bandwidth of 114% calculated at an operating of 4.02GHz covering a band of 3.84 - 8.25 GHz. Minimum return loss is observed at 4.02GHz, 6.32GHz, 7.65GHz frequencies, which falls into the C-Band (4-8GHz). The minimum gain obtained in the whole range of bandwidth 5dB and maximum gain is 15.05dB. The proposed antenna can be used for wearable broadband military applications covering the ISM band (5.725 - 5.875 GHz).
