CPW-Fed Wheel-Shaped Super Wideband Monopole Antenna

A wheel shaped microstrip patch antenna with coplanar waveguide feed designed for super wideband applications is presented. An operating frequency range of 4 to 51.4 GHz (ratio bandwidth of 12.82:1 and fractional bandwidth of 171.12%) is achieved by using wheel shaped radiating patch and modified ground planes. The dimensions of the antenna are 20 mm × 17 mm. The designed antenna structure has peak realized gain of 9.07 dBi and desirable radiation characteristics. This antenna is dominating the previously reported antenna geometries in terms of bandwidth, dimensions, bandwidth dimension ratio and peak realized gain.
