A Gap Coupled Monopole MIMO Antenna for 5G NR and Wi-Fi 6 Applications

In this paper, a compact wideband antenna with 37.3% FBW has been designed on a
$0.33\times 0.33{\lambda_{\mathrm{L}}}^{2}$
substrate area. The antenna operating bandwidth has been enhanced by adding an open stub and a capacitor. Attached in one resonating arm, by lowering the quality factor, it improves the impedance matching level of the antenna. The antenna shows a wide −10 dB impedance bandwidth from 5.06-7.38 GHz. Once the single element is designed, it is replicated to make a
$2\times 2$
MIMO antenna to meet the 5G NR and Wi-Fi 6 requirements. The antenna has nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern with moderate realized gain and reasonable antenna efficiency. Further, due to the narrow strip radiators, and the gap coupling, the isolation is better than 12 dB and 17 dB in 5G NR and Wi-Fi 6 communication bands. Due to the pattern diversity, the antenna also exhibits very good ECC in the intended communication bands.
