A Polarization Insensitive Dual-Band Tunable FSS

The applications of s-band in communication plays a vital role in the field of satellite communication. S band is an aviation, weather forecast and geodesy used frequency band in the microwave range between 2.0-2.4 GHz. For S-band applications, this paper presents a tunable dual band microwave band stop FSS. Two metallic patches are printed on both sides of the dielectric substrate in this design. The patch at the top of the dielectric surface is made of metal (copper), and it consists of a square loop in the center that is connected to four identical metal strips on the diagonals. The active components used here are varactor diodes and are put into the diagonal spaces. By adjusting the reverse voltage of the varactor diode, the absorption frequency may be controlled separately on both sides of the design for a wide frequency range. The proposed dual band tunable band stop FSS has four-fold symmetry, making the structure polarization-insensitive and thus suitable for practical applications. Because of its filtering properties and simple structure, this dual-band adjustable band stop FSS can be used in real time applications.
