SAR Analysis of Circular Miniaturized Implantable Antenna for Bio-Telemetry Applications

Bio-telemetry devices are in increasing demand in the medical and health care industry. In this paper, proposed a Circular Miniaturized Implantable (CMI) antenna it communicates wireless information in the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) (2.4 to 2.5 GHz) band. To avert sharp edges in CMI antenna, patch and substrate are in a circular shape to achieve compactness few circular slots are etched out from the radiating patch. The CMI antenna was implanted in the cylindrical shape three-layered human arm model and analyzed several parameters like return loss, peak gain and specific absorption rate (SAR). This structure is made up of slots considered on the radiating patch and on the defective ground structure (DGS) ground plane. The surface current helps to find out the current path on the patch which is useful to alter the slot dimensions to achieve the miniaturization and to resonate at the desired operating frequency. The material considered for substrate and superstrate: Rogers RO 3010, material permittivity = 10.2 and loos tangent (tan (δ) = 0.003. Finally, the simulated design is validated in with and without cylindrical three-layered human arm model. The proposed CMI antenna is implanted at 6 mm depth in the muscle and analyzed at the ISM band.
