I.M.P.A.C.T. - Information Modulation for Predictive Actionable Content in Teaching

With MOOCs becoming an educational buzzword in India and presaging a revolution in education technology, companies such as Coursera, Udemy and EdX offering undergraduate-level university courses, as the new alternatives to mainstream education are on the rise across India. The paper explores two parts; if a cautious approach needs to be undertaken by participating institutions and governing universities while adopting such MOOC courses as a part of their curriculum and second the inherently confusing aspect of which course or track should the participating student enroll for and the probability of completion of the same, towards gaining course credits and employment. The paper tries to make the reader understand the importance of modulation in content when a multitude of courses and tracks are presented to a user. The finding presents two unique insights, the first being would a user be it a student or teacher go astray in exploring as many domains in such MOOC content even if he/she may not belong to that primary domain and second, would student registration and completion of particular courses point to a lacuna in current course offering and could such courses be offered as electives under the mentorship of professors considering a cluster demand for the same is clearly seen from the learning analytics.
