MES (manufacturing execution system) is the state-of-the-art vertically integrated business system used in manufacturing industries for managing operations, materials, inventory, resource, maintenance, tracking, and traceability of the product under manufacture. High volume manufacturing uses multiple complex modules to handle the operations. This paper focuses on the study of MES systems deployed across manufacturing industries towards IOT 4.0, citing industry challenges, manufacturing strategies, technology fit, and derived benefits.
