Vehicular Pollution Monitoring System using IoT: A Review

Air degradation is an issue for ages and is continuously expanding. The average air quality of India is 141 that is extremely bad for health, and state-wise it is worsening. Breathing to such hazardous air is damaging our health. Exposure to it either for the short or the long term generates illness and cases of death. Air pollution produced from numerous human activities, and vehicle emission is the predominant one of them. Many scientists have demonstrated that vehicle emissions are the major contributor to air pollution. And due to the increased demand for transportation, contamination is also enlarging. The people and the government have identified air pollution as an immediate concern. Protocol, standards, and preventive measures are defined steps for monitoring air. Researchers have developed systems for monitoring pollution caused by vehicles over the specified limit. And setup has many variants, majorly all of them are using wireless devices embedded with sensors over spanned of the network, i.e., Internet of Thing(s) (IoT). The paper aims to survey different systems established to witness vehicle emissions using IoT and their uses. Here, IoT is composed of a microcontroller board, harmful gas sensors for the value of pollutants, a global system for mobile communication (GSM) for sending message service, and radio frequency identification (RFID) for the tagging system.
