The Clinical Case in Dentistry: Overview of Online Learning During the Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has generated abrupt changes in various human activities, one of them, perhaps the most affected, university education. Currently, the teachinglearning process is a challenge in this new online condition, and even more so in the field of dentistry, which involves the development of a clinical case. The aim of this article is to diagnose the learning in online conditions for the elaboration of clinical cases by dental students in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a case study with a mixed approach in a sample of 27 undergraduate dental students in a private university in Lima - Peru. A survey on metacognitive strategies was designed, adapted to the development of clinical cases in dentistry. The results indicate that 86.14% of the total sample knows and applies metacognitive strategies in the development of the clinical case from a conceptual and procedural level. However, 4 of these students interviewed and to whom a rubric of practical activity was applied, assume their greatest difficulty in clinical diagnosis; requiring practical strategies.
