Microwave CPA-Amplifier with Multi-Gigawatt Ultrashort Output Pulses

The possibility of efficient amplification of ultrashort microwave superradiant pulses with use of Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA) technique had been studied theoretically. This technique implies preliminary stretching of initial pulse, subsequent amplification of chirped pulse with reduced peak power and restoration of pulse original shape in compressor. According to calculations, considered CPA scheme comprising a relativistic Cherenkov amplifier and five-fold helically corrugated oversized waveguides as stretcher and compressor can amplify 30 GHz, 360 ps, 400 MW initial supperradiance pulse up to 8 GW. Thus, the peak power of amplified pulse can exceed power of used electron beam by factor of 4.
