Design of the radio frequency section of a V-Band Klystron

This article presents the design and simulation results for the RF section of a V -band klystron operating at 60 GHz. Square shape single side reentrant cavities, compatible with micromachining fabrication process are proposed for radio frequency (RF) section of this device. The cavity parameters were obtained through optimization of cavity geometrical parameters, i.e. the interaction gap, cavity length, height etc. Design approach of the cavities as well as corresponding simulation results are presented. Initial result of the beam wave interaction, showing stable growth of the RF wave is also presented. The license-free frequencies at V -band are being increasingly relevant with the advent of 5G mm-wave communication technologies. This device may find application in establishment of high data rate mm-wave communication for back-haul/front-haul.
