Malaria is a disease
that has plagued humanity since ancient times. Mentioned in Chinese scriptures from almost 5,000 years ago, and throughout Greek and Roman literature, it is caused by Plasmodium parasites, which infect humans through the bite of the infected female Anopheles mosquito. Though it is both preventable and curable, it kills hundreds of thousands of people every year.
