Review on Authentication Schemes for Device Security in LoRaWAN

Internet of Things (IoT) is being seen as the ultra-modern technology with a wide scope of research in its various aspects. A single compromised device can be turned malicious and hacked to bring down the system to be compromised. This arises the need to design a better device authentication scheme that considers limited power, frequency, bandwidth, and prevents insider attack. Though Multi factor Authentication being most popular at application layer security to achieve integrity and confidentiality, but when it comes to provide security at device level over heterogeneous IoT network this becomes very challenging. We need better solution and platform with good ecosystem and cost effectiveness. One such promising technology is LoRaWAN, as it offers a secure platform to work with heterogeneous devices and speedy transmission over the air. The devices can be protected by means of secure authentication procedure from cyber-attacks that attempts to steal sensitive and private information. This article discusses review on authentication schemes and highlights the issues and security solution in current state of art with LoRaWAN. We discuss different authentication schemes for device security in LoRaWan and analyse the effectiveness of each scheme.
