Design and Control of Smart Loads With Battery System

Smart load is one of the emerging technique for demand side management. This paper deals with smart load based on the second generation of an Electric spring (ES-2). The proposed controller for an ES-2 allows controlling an active and reactive power of supply under dynamic changes in supply or load demand. A modified instantaneous p-q theory computes an active and reactive power. A systematic design of an ES-2 is presented in this paper. The reference switching signals are obtained for control of ES-2 using proposed instantaneous p-q theory without using any kind of phase locked loop (PLL). A proposed system facilitates consumer to schedule their load demands in a strategic manner. A Full bridge power converter is employed in ES-2. Proposed concept of smart load is presented and validated under different dynamic conditions.
