Control of PV-BES Fed Sensorless PMSM Driven Water Pump With BES Deep Discharge Protection

In this paper, a depth of discharge (DOD) based deep-discharge protection control of battery energy storage (BES) and model reference adaptive system based sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motor for solar photovoltaic (PV) based water pump system (WPS) is realized. The conventional PV-BES fed WPS exhibits BES deep discharge risk and electromagnetic vulnerability, reduced reliability and enhanced cost due to the mechanical sensor. These problems are solved by the presented techniques as described above. Besides, the provision for supplying auxiliary loads, which thereby represents the electronic load, lighting load, fan load etc., is also included in the system. Meanwhile, the algorithm for DOD based protection control is also realized. The key components of the system are designed and modelled in MATLAB/Simulink. The operation of system with both the sensorless and the BES protection controls is realized at different solar irradiation, and the associated results are reported in detail.
