Shear Capacity of Concrete Beams Reinforced with Textile Carbon Yarns and Flamingo Reinforcing System

This paper studies the use of the new reinforcement techniques in reinforcing the shear zones for the structural reinforced concrete members instead of the traditional shear reinforcement. The textile carbon yarns and the flamingo reinforcing system are used as alternatives for the steel stirrups. Five beams with dimensions of (200mm $\times$ 300mm $\times$ l500mm) were cast, cured and tested in shear under four point bending. One control beam was with traditional steel stirrups and two beams were with textile carbon stirrups with different angle of inclination while the last two beams were with the flamingo reinforcing system with variation in the angle of inclination for both upper and lower ends. The results revealed that the beams have clearly increased the shear capacity of the beam, increased the shear ductility, ultimate deflection and improved the cracking behavior.
