A Supersonic Underwater Pulsed Acoustic Source

A supersonic underwater pulsed acoustic source has been developed at Loughborough University. A 120 kV magnetic core transformer drives electrical breakdown which acts as an acoustic source. The paper will present the design of the system and source, the diagnostic methods used to study breakdown, including an ultra-fast camera, acoustic diagnostics, and analytical techniques employed. The main results will be presented and discussed.
