Removal of Copper ion (CU2+) from Dairy wastewater by using Membrane Distillation (MD)

The purpose of the paper is to apply the membrane distillation (MD) principle in treating dairy wastewater and demonstrate the possibility of a membrane distillation mechanism to remove copper ion from dairy wastewater. Two types of membranes were used: the first is HP) Polytetrafluoroethylene hydrophobic (PTFE), the second is acrylic copolymer (HCP), (Pall Corporation) water. The removal efficiency of the first membrane, for the first time, reaches 99.75%, then the removal is lower until it reaches 87.362%. While the beginning in the second is at 57%, after time the removal rate drops to 42.46%. Then it is better to wash the membrane to run the reactor well. As for the second membrane, it is better in dealing with this type of wastewater, especially when a simple sedimentation is performed to get rid of the settable materials. The temperature affects the work efficiency and removal by MD but to a certain extent. That is, there is no direct relationship between the removals of the copper ion with the increase in temperature. This can happen to a certain extent and the effect of this relationship stops. The main objective of applying MD to removing copper from dairy wastewater it’s to mitigate the bad effects of this ion on human health.
