The Efficacy of the Return Sludge in Removing Undesirable Materials from the Karbala Unified Water Project

The unified Karbala water project is one of the large water production projects with a production capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per hour. The main purpose of this research is to take into account the characteristics of water more in terms of its contribution to the treatment process and not its suitability as a water source for the purification plants only. The jar test procedure has been used in the implementation of this article. All tests of characteristics have been achieved according to American Public Health Association (APHA), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and Water Environment Federation (WEF). Apparatus used in this study is Jar test model JLT 6 Leaching test VELP Scientifica, with all apparatuses and tools can complete work. After adding returned sludge into the water by different figures it was founded recycling of sludge with (50%) of the incoming discharge improves the treatment efficiency by reducing residual turbidity with less amount of alum. The returned particles work with the sludge, bridges and flocs work, which increases the removal efficiency at rates that can reach (14%), This aluminium precipitate works effectively in accomplishing the treatment process. This process will reduce the amount of aluminium used primarily to complete the treatment process, by about 50 %, reducing the aluminium amount in the treatment plant will be reducing health side effect on human begins, reducing the alum amount in achieving treatment, this Figure will give cost benefits,
