Electronic Cooling of Nodal-Point Semimetals Around Room Temperature

We construct a model of quantum mechanical Schottky- Nordheim tunneling and the accompanying thermal transport for the nodal-point, which is a type-1 Semimetals. We show that the tunnelling-induced electronic effect (Nottingham effect) typically occurs around or below room temperature, which is remarkably low compared to the typical onset temperature of T>1000 K in traditional metals. Such enhanced cooling effect stems from the increasing electronic density of states away from the nodal points, which promotes the outflow of hot electrons while promotes electronic cooling during the tunnelling process. Our finding reveals the Nodal-Point Semimetal as an intriguing platform for probing the elusive Nottingham cooling effect and will introduces a wide range of applications in the field of electronics, nanotechnology and material science.
