Information Technology Analysis of Satellite Data for Land Irrigation Monitoring : Invited Paper

The incomplete use of methods and means of remote sensing of the Earth significantly limits the possibilities of innovative technologies for precision farming and land reclamation. This paper presents an overview of current research directions in this area, which demonstrate the effectiveness of using satellite data in agriculture. In recent decades, there has been a revolution in this area, which is associated both with the emergence of new high-quality satellite Earth observation systems and with a change in the access policy to them, and with the development of new technologies for processing, analyzing and using remote sensing data. This paper proposes an information technology for monitoring land irrigation based on calculating the difference in temperature and vegetation indices during the growing season. The article describes the statistical patterns typical for satellite and ground-based data in areas with a predominance of irrigated and rainfed types of agriculture. The assessment of the accuracy of the indices for various conditions of agriculture is carried out on the example of the Dnipro region.
