Security and Privacy in Associated Self Controlled Cars

Technology and infrastructure is currently being researched and developed to support fully autonomous, connected cars. This work includes developing an environment in which these vehicles will have the ability to communicate with each other. This, however, exposes the autonomous system to new vulnerabilities, such as malicious attacks and abuse of privacy. This paper will explain the fundamentals of secure communication, requirements for a network to be considered secure, types of security that exist today, and then propose a cryptographic protocol through which secure communication in connected autonomous cars can be achieved. Connected technology will inherently produce frequent transmissions and sensitive information will be handled. This requires attentionbe given to define, uphold, and develop necessary privacy standards and protocols. This process has not yet begun, and therefore this paper will also serve to point out important privacy requirements which must be paired with explicit protocols. The important requirements of secure and private communication in connected vehicles will be analyzed, along with possible ways these requirements can be achieved, what current measures are in use, and ways to improve them.
