Integrated DC-DC Converter For Stand-alone Single Phase Photovoltaic Supply System

This paper presents an integrated DC-DC converter (IDDC) based stand-alone single phase photovoltaic supply system (SSPPSS). This IDDC provides three ports i.e. port 1 (P-1), port 2 (P-2) and port 3 (P-3). The P-1 of proposed IDDC is coupled with solar photovoltaic array; the P-2 provides a terminal for coupling of DC link of voltage source inverter (VSI), and the P-3 is interfaced with low voltage battery energy storage. The bidirectional power flow takes places in between P-2 and P-3 using both buck and boost mode with high voltage gain. The separate and independent control of IDDC performs the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of photovoltaic array and charging/discharging of battery. P-1 of IDDC allows the MPPT control. A full bridge VSI is used to convert DC to AC power at fixed voltage and frequency. To generate the switching signal of VSI, dead-beat (DB) control for single phase VSI is developed. The DB control of VSI eliminates the need of proportional-integral (PI) controller. The proposed IDDC based SSPPSS and its controller is modeled in MATLAB simulink platform. Its performance is observed at satisfactory level.
