Non-Fragile Observer Based Sliding Mode Control of Non-Isolated On-Board Battery Charger

This paper presents the design procedure of observer based sliding mode controller (SMC) and PI controller using non-fragile approach for on-board battery charger (OBC) of Electric Vehicle (EV). The OBC is basically a non-isolated two switch buck boost (TSBB) converter. The two-loop cascaded control scheme has been employed. The observer-based SMC is used for the inner current control loop and PI controller is used for the outer voltage control loop. These controllers (SMC and PI) and observer are designed based on non-fragile approach using linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Simulation work has been carried out using PSIM and MATLAB software. The controller performance is evaluated based on its ability to achieve good dynamic performance and robust control with uncertainties in controller parameters.
