Modelbased Predictive Control System for Battery-Trolleybuses in a LVDC Traction Network

The replacement of conventional trolleybuses alongside with the integration of stationary storage systems, photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging stations within the LVDC traction network is accompanied by the development of a monitoring and control system. The grid state is subject to high volatility due to the dynamically changing power consumption of the battery-trolleybuses. This results in highly volatile current and voltage profiles, making a forecast-based monitoring and control system most suitable. In an initial step, the evaluation of the grid state is performed. Afterwards, the control system operates by firstly evaluating the availability and flexibility of the actuators. The actuators are then sorted according to their flexibility and the potential impact of their respective power adjustment in order to solve critical grid situations such as current overloads or voltage limit violations. Subsequently, the actual power adjustment for the actuators is calculated by means of a power flow calculation und finally validated within the forecast system.
