State of Charge Balancing Control for Battery System Based on the Reconfigurable Converter

The state of charge (SOC) balancing techniques are required in the battery management system (BMS) to solve the inconsistency of battery modules capacity. This paper proposes a SOC equilibrium control strategy based on the reconfigurable converter. Firstly, the reconfigurable converter that can be reconfigured to four different operating modes is established. Secondly, an improved balancing control strategy is conceived to allow energy transfer between battery modules. The proposed scheme improves the SOC balancing speed through the bidirectional equilibrium of the battery charge and discharge process. Finally, a simulation model is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
