A Novel Fault Location Method for High Impedance Grounding Fault in Distribution Network

It's difficult to detect high impedance grounding fault due to the low fault current and intermittent process. In this paper, a fault detection and location method based on zero-sequence power correlation coefficient is proposed. First, according to the analysis of zero-sequence fault current and voltage, the zero-sequence power direction of fault lines are opposite to the zero-sequence power direction of healthy lines. Then, according to the fault characteristics difference of zero-sequence power between fault and healthy lines, the correlation coefficient of zero-sequence power is proposed to discriminate the fault line. Finally, the proposed method is validated by the simulations using PSCAD and MATLAB. The results indicate that the proposed method can locate the high impedance grounding fault lines and is slightly affected by the transition resistances.
