EMT Modelling and Overvoltage Analysis of Renewable Energy Generation Grid-connected System

With the rapid development of renewable energy generation, the overvoltage of power system integrated with large-scale of renewable energy generations has gradually emerged, which has become one of the main restricting factors for the integration of renewable energy generators. However, most of the existing methods mainly analyze the influence of overvoltage from the electromechanical transient (TS) aspect, and the overvoltage suppression strategies have not been given fully consideration. Based on the above considerations, in the present study, the electromagnetic transient (EMT) model of a typical UHVDC sending-end system integrated with large-scale of renewable energy generations is established based on the Advanced Digital Power System Simulator (ADPSS), and it is revealed that the terminal bus overvoltage of renewable energy generator is the main restriction factor of the UHVDC transmission capacity. In what follows, time-domain simulation results of TS as well as EMT simulation under the same operating conditions are compared. At the end of this study, the suppression effect of installing arresters on the overvoltage of renewable energy generation grid-connected system is explored. Conclusions of this study can provide reference for cognition, analysis, and suppression of power system overvoltage in practice.
