Automatic contactless weighing of fish during experiments

Fish growth dynamics is very important to perform the experiments studying fish and their environment. In order to measure fish length and weight, there contact methods are used, which cause stress and negatively affects the growth of fish and the experiments purity. To solve the problem, in this paper we propose a method of contactless weighing of fish in an aquarium using image processing. We use two video cameras for data acquisition; one camera is located above the aquarium, and the second on the long side. In the scope of this work, we propose a method for image processing not based on neural networks, with low computing resources consumption, and conducted experiments with rainbow trout. The experimental results approved a “proof-of-concept” system of contactless measurement of fish weight with an average error of 7%.
