Characteristics of Wind Swing of Carbon Fiber Composite Core Conductor Transmission Lines

Carbon fiber composite conductors (CFCC) have a wide potential application prospect in the capacity expansion project. But its characteristics of wind swing are not clear, which is not conducive to its popularization. In this paper, A dynamic model of transmission line was established, and the same type of aluminum conductor steel reinforced (ACSR) was selected for comparative study. The minimum interphase distance of the conductors and the wind swing angle of the insulator string under three kinds of wind were calculated. The simulated results show that the wind swing responses of CFCC are different under different wind patterns, and the minimum interphase distance may occur between the B-C phases or the A- B phases in different range of span. It was found that the swing angle in the CFCC lines was slightly larger than that in the ACSR lines, and the swing of insulators is the most serious in gust, followed by fluctuating wind and steady wind. Therefore, the influence of gust and fluctuating wind should be fully considered in the design of CFCC lines, and measures to prevent wind swing should be strengthened when installing CFCC in the old ACSR lines.
