Gain Enhancement of H-Plane Scanning Phased Array Antenna Using Huygens Metasurface

In this paper, Huygens metasurface is used to enhance the gain of an H-plane scanning phased array antenna. The Huygens meta-atom is realized by a pair of complementary rings with centrosymmetric structure and axisymmetric T-shape stubs, which are orthogonal to each other. The phased array is designed as a
$1\times 4$
circular patch linear array. With the Huygens meta-lens loaded above the linear array, the fan beam radiated by the linear array is converted into the pencil beam, thus the gain of E-plane is improved. Fullwave simulation results show that the peak gain of the linear array is increased from 11.2dBi to 17.4dBi through loading Huygens lens. The gain fluctuation is less than 4.4dB in the ±26° scanning range.
