Location and Identification of Linear and Nonlinear Targets in 3D using PI-DORT and Time of Flight

This paper discusses combining PI-DORT with time-of-flight measurement to realize location and identification of linear and nonlinear targets in three dimensions (3D). DORT (a French acronym for “Decomposition of the Time Reversal Operator”) is used to identify multiple targets in bistatic detection with pulse inversion (PI) being employed to distinguish nonlinear scatterers from linear scatterers. The resulting technique, PI-DORT, is then combined with time-of-flight (ToF) to allow for 3D target location in complex, multi-target environments containing both linear and nonlinear targets. The result is an approach combining PI-DORT and time-of-flight measurements to identify and locate targets in 3D.
