EIRP Enhancement of Multi-Facet Phased Antenna Arrays for Full-Azimuth Radio Coverage

An approach to the compensation of scan loss at large scan angles in multi-facet active phased antenna arrays for full-azimuth radio coverage is discussed. The proposed methodology is based on the coordinated management of the insertion phase shifts along the beamforming network of array panel pairs in equilateral triangle and square arrangements. The achieved enhancement of equivalent isotropically radiated power compensates for the scan losses experienced at about ±60° and ±45° in triangular and square panel array configurations, respectively. The presented results are based on full-wave simulations, and demonstrate effectively the proposed concept.
