Safety Metrics Investigation of an Electrically Coupled Patch Antenna for sub-6 GHz Portable Devices Serving 5G/6G Systems

In this paper, we study the safety criteria of a capacitive coupled microstrip antenna operates at 5.4 GHz. We assess the safety of the antenna in terms of its Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and Input Power Density (IPD). The antenna is placed close to a homogeneous dielectric cuboid of muscles to simplify the practical case. The values of the allowable fed power according to mass averaged SAR and area averaged IPD standards are compared. Both metrics are important to determine the safest limit that does not affect neither the body surface nor the internal organs.
