Compact and Wideband Design of Substrate Integrated Waveguide Fed Dielectric Resonator Antenna Array

A planar array of dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) integrated with a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is designed to operate at millimeter wavelengths. The proposed design is very compact (
$\sim 4.3\lambda\times 3.6\lambda$
) with
$6\times 4$
DRA array elements excited through the slots on the SIW. An impedance bandwidth (S

≤−10 dB) of 13% is achieved and a peak-gain of approximately 19 dBi is realized over the operating frequency band 34-38.5 GHz. The radiation efficiency is also maintained above 90% over this band. The front-to-back ratio and the sidelobe level are satisfactorily maintained below −24dB and −12dB, respectively.
